Mónica Pustilnik was born in Buenos Aires, where she studied at the Conservatorio Nacional López Buchardo guitar and piano, obtaining her Diploma in 1991, after lessons, among others, with Carlos Groisman, Graciela Pomponio and Omar Cyrulnik.

In 1994 she begins her studies in renaissance and baroque music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Basel, Switzerland), specializing in lute, chitarrone, baroque and renaissance guitar under the guidance of Hopkinson Smith.

She also studied Basso Continuo with Jesper Christensen, both at the lute and the harpsichord. At the same time she did make a master on the lute with Rolf Lislevand at the Musikhochschule in Trossingen (Germany). Afterwards she attended the Class in Choral Direction of Michel Corboz at the Conservatoire Superieur in Gêneve (Switzerland).

In 2010 she earns the "Master of Arts in Spezialisierter Musikalischer Performance / Vertiefung Historischer Spielpraxis" from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, under the guidance of Hopkinson Smith.

Her activity as a soloist, both in chamber music groups and as a Basso Continuo player in orchestras interpreting operas and oratories, is very intense.

Among others, she plays with the following ensembles: Le Concert d’Astrèe (Emanuelle Haim), Les musicienes du Louvre (Marc Minkowsky), Les Talens Lyrics (Christophe Rousset), Concerto Vocale (Renè Jacobs), Ensemble Elyma (Gabriel Garrido), Il Seminario Musicale (Gerard Lesne), Concerto Soave (Maria Cristina Kiehr).

She has been invited to play with the Hessisches Rundfunk Orchester (Frankfurt, Germany), the Orquesta Nacional de España, the Birmingham Simphony Orchestra (United Kingdom), and the Philarmonisches Orchester (Berlin, Germany).

In the role of assistant to the musical direction she did participate in the production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (Caen Opera House, oct/nov. 2005), and Francesco Cavalli’s Hipermestra (Utrecht Festival, august 2006). Mónica Pustilnik did recordings for Virgin Classics, Glossa Music, Harmonia Mundi, Astrèe Naïve, Ambronay, Arcana, Zig-Zag Territoires, Ambroisie, Arsis, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Between 2001 and 2004 she worked as a repertorist at the ‘Opernstudio’ in the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Since 2002 she teaches Basso Continuo and Lute in Barcelona at the ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya).

She teaches Lute and Basso Continuo at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica in L’Aquila (Italy) since 2011.

In November 2014 is responsible for the musical direction of the "Elena" Opera of Francesco Cavalli (Opéra de Nantes and Angers, France). A disc devoted to music for archlute of Alessandro Picininni was published in October of the same year by the Accent label.
